Dr. Mark B. Gordon
started his own practice in late 1971 in Taneytown, Maryland shortly
after his return to Baltimore from New York where he did an extended
residency. After a year in practice, he took an associate, Dr.
Howard Levin. Together they opened or bought additional practices
throughout the greater Baltimore area. These practices were known
as Gordon and Levin until 1980, when the doctors added 3 Barenburg
practices to their existing 6 practices. To insure continuity,
all practices became known as Barenburg Eye Associates.
Dr. Gordon attended
the University of Maryland from 1964 until 1967 when he was accepted
a year early to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. There he
received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 and his Doctor
of Optometry degree form in 1971. After graduation, Dr. Gordon
attended the New York Optometric Center where he continued his
studies in Vision Training.
Dr. Gordon was
one of the founders of MEC Health Care, one of the first managed
eye care companies in the country. He was critical in establishing
optometry as the entry point and standard of care for such companies
as BlueCross/Blue Shield, Carefirst, Potomac Health, Trigon Health
and Kaiser Permanente, among others. Dr. Gordon served as C.E.O.
and President until MEC was sold and he returned to full time
optometry.
Dr. Gordon is a
member of both the Maryland and American Optometric Associations.
A native of Baltimore,
Maryland, Dr. Gordon resides in Pikesville with his wife, Ellen.
They have 2 children, Dr. Shoshana Cohen and Dr. Joshua Gordon,
both optometrists who joined the practice in 1996 and 1999 respectively.

Dr. Shoshana Cohen
attended the University of Maryland, College Park from 1989 through
1992, when she departed for early acceptance to Pennsylvania College
of Optometry in Philadelphia. Dr. Cohen received her Bachelor
of Science degree from PCO in 1993 and completed her Doctor of
Optometry degree in 1996.
As a fourth year
extern, Dr. Cohen received Clinical Excellence in Pediatrics and
Low Vision at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and studied
contact lenses at a private optometric practice in Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida. Dr. Cohen continued her externships at Omni Eye Specialists
in Baltimore, Maryland, in addition to concentrated clinical education
with both Glaucoma and Retina Specialists in local private practices.
Dr. Cohen completed her final externship at Katzen Eye Group in
Baltimore, enhancing her diagnostic and clinical skills.
Upon Dr. Cohen’s
graduation from PCO in 1996, she joined Barenburg Eye Associates.
Dr. Cohen specializes in Primary eye care, with sub-specialties
in Glaucoma Co-Management and Contact Lenses, including specialty
fits and keratoconus.
Dr. Cohen is a
member of both the Maryland and American Optometric Associations.
A native of Baltimore,
Dr. Cohen resides in Pikesville with her husband and daughter.

Dr. Joshua S. Gordon
attended the University of Maryland, College Park from 1992 until
1995 when he was accepted as a three year undergraduate to the
Pennsylvania College of Optometry in North Philadelphia. He received
his Bachelor of Science degree after his first year at Pennsylvania
College of Optometry and completed his Doctor of Optometry degree
in 1999.
While studying
for his doctorate, Dr. Gordon did residencies in pediatrics and
low vision at the Eye Institute in Philadelphia. At the Boston
VA hospital he co- managed glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
He studied contact lenses at one of the most renowned contact
lens specialty practices, Broward Eye Care, in Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida. His final residency with the Katzen Eye Group in Baltimore
afforded him ample exposure to study pre and post operative cataract
patients and ocular disease.
After his graduation
in 1999, Dr. Gordon joined Barenburg Eye Associates. He specializes
in contact lens patients, particularly those difficult to fit,
and he manages both pre- and post-operative care for LASIK patients.
His other areas of concentration are dry eye treatment with punctal
plugs, keratoconus and aphakic contact lens fittings.
Dr. Gordon is a
member of both the Maryland and American Optometric Associations.
A native of Baltimore,
Dr. Gordon resides in Federal Hill where he enjoys sports, golfing,
volleyball, gourmet cooking, theatre and the arts.

M. Fischer, O.D. |

Dr. Ross M. Fischer
earned his undergraduate degree from the George Washington University
in 1971 and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania
College of Optometry in 1975. He has certified continuing education
in diagnostic pharmaceuticals from the University of Alabama and
therapeutic pharmaceutical training from the State University
of New York.
Dr. Fischer is
a member of the Central Maryland Optometric Society where he served
as Vice-President in 1981 and President in 1982. He is also a
member of the Maryland Optometric and American Optometric Associations
in addition to the Optometric Extension Program Foundation.
Dr. Fischer has
been an associate of Barenburg Eye Associates for over 25 years.
A native of Maryland,
Dr. Fischer resides in Chevy Chase, where he enjoys a wide range
of activities.

Stephen
B. Hameroff, M.D.

Dr. Stephen Hameroff, a native
of Brooklyn, New York. He completed his undergraduate studies
at the University of Maryland, Magna Cum Laude in 1962. After
graduation from the University of Maryland Medical School, Cum
Laude in 1967, he interned at South Baltimore General Hospital.
He completed residencies in Neurology, Neuro-ophthalmology and
Ophthalmology and was board certified in Ophthalmology in 1974.
Dr. Hameroff served as Associate
Professor of Ophthalmology and Associate Chief of Ophthalmology
at University of Maryland and Union Memorial Hospitals respectively.
He started his private practice with Dr. David Braver in 1967.
Dr. Hameroff is a member of the Baltimore County Medical Society
and Med-Chi and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He and
his wife Bea presently reside in Pikesville and are the parents
of 4 grown children.

Harold
R. Katz, M.D. |

Dr. Harold R. Katz has over 20
years of experience as an ophthalmologist specializing in infectious
eye disease, corneal and cataract surgery and refractive surgery.
He is the recipient of the Golden Apple Ophthalmology Teaching
Award and the Excellence in Teaching Award both from Sinai Hospital
of Baltimore. Before joining Barenburg Eye Associates in late
2006, Dr. Katz was an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. Currently
he is President of Ocular Consulting Services, Inc.
Dr. Katz is a native of New York
City. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology, Summa Cum Laude,
from Hunter College in New York. He graduated from New York University
School of Medicine in 1979 and began his internship in that same
year at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in the Bronx. After
a four year residency in ophthalmology at Jules Stein Eye Institute
in Los Angeles he completed his fellowship in Cornea/External
Disease at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. Dr.
Katz was appointed to the staff of Krieger Eye Institute in 1984
and continued as Associate Chairman of Ophthalmology until 2005.
Dr. Katz is a member of too many prestigious organizations to
enumerate. Among them are Phi Beta Kappa, the American Academy
of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association and the Maryland
Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Katz resides in Baltimore County,
Maryland, and is the father of three children.
