Dr. Mark Gordon, optometrist and managing partner of Barenburg Eye Associates, never dreamed that both his daughter and son would follow in his footsteps.

Dr. Gordon established his first practice in Taneytown, in Carroll County, in 1972. By the end of 1978, he added four locations in the greater Baltimore area. Purchasing the established, four-location Barenburg family practices in 1980, Dr. Gordon vowed to continue the same level of care and service that Baltimoreans had grown to know and trust for over 60 years.

In 1996, Dr. Gordon’s daughter, Shoshana Cohen, joined the practice, specializing in contact lenses, pediatrics, and glaucoma treatment and co-management. In 1999, Dr. Gordon’s son, Joshua joined the family practice specializing in contact lenses, pediatrics, and treatment of dry eye.

All three doctors graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia with citations in clinical excellence, and are members of the American and Maryland Optometric Associations with certification by the Maryland Board of Optometry and the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.

With locations in Downtown Baltimore, Dundalk, Ellicott City, Forest Park, and Pikesville, the practice has three additional optometrists and three ophthalmologists. Barenburg Eye Associates offers comprehensive eye care encompassing routine eye examinations, treatment and management of eye disease, as well as cataract and LASIK surgery.

Family eye care was Barenburg’s foundation, and although it has transformed into a multi-specialty practice, it will always be a family dedicated to serving other Maryland families.
