Dr. Clarke Nelson, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Clarke Nelson graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. of Physics from Vanderbilt University, graduating with distinction from the honors program for his undergraduate dissertation in nuclear physics. Dr. Nelson then attending the combined M.D./Ph.D. program at the University of Connecticut and wrote his Ph.D. dissertation on implantable biomaterials before graduating from the Medical School. After graduation, Dr. Nelson attended Mercy Medical Center for his internship followed by Howard University Hospital for his Residency in ophthalmology.
Dr. Nelson’s accomplishments include 15 peer-reviewed publications and 19 presentations across the country. At the University of Connecticut, Dr. Nelson served as the President of the Medical and Dental Student and won the MD/ PhD Leadership Award. During Internship at Mercy Medical Center, Dr. Nelson was voted by Nursing Staff as the top Intern in a class of 16. In residency, Dr. Nelson served as Chief Resident during his final year.
Born in Annapolis, Maryland but raised in Cockeysville, Dr. Nelson now finds his home in Phoenix, MD with his golden retriever, Luna.
